Immigrating under the Quebec Skilled Worker Program

This program consists of identifying candidates who are likely to succeed economically by integrating the Canadian labour market, specifically in Quebec. The selection of candidates for this program is different from other immigration programs.

Four pieces of legislation are considered in reviewing applications under this program:

  • Immigration Law
  • The Immigration Regulation
  • The weighting regulation
  • TheCanada-Quebec agreement on immigration and temporary admission of aliens.

What is a skilled worker under the Quebec economic immigration program

According to the regulation, it is someone who is at least 18 years old who comes to Quebec to work in a job that he or she is likely to be able to do.

There are two skilled worker programs

 

Regular Skilled Worker Program

This program takes into consideration the socio-professional characteristics of the immigration candidate.

Selection factors

  • Education (level and field of training);
  • Age;
  • Work experience;
  • Language skills in French and English;
  • Characteristics of the accompanying spouse (if applicable);
  • Stays and family members in Quebec;
  • Existence of a validated job offer;
  • Children of the candidate

 

Points will be awarded to the applicant for these factors, it is essential to achieve a passing score in order to be considered for this program.

Please note that in all cases, the applicant must have a highschool diploma and have the financial resources to meet his/her needs and those of his/her accompanying family members, if any, for a period determined by the regulations.
