The ECT Program at The Centennial Centre for Mental Health and Brain Injury offers inpatient services to our adult and geriatric patients while Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation or TMS is offered on an outpatient basis. Reporting to the Manager, the Registered Nurse – ECT / TMS assists in the coordination and safe delivery of Electroconvulsive Therapy and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation. The successful candidate will be expected to provide education and support to the patient. The Nurse has a role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. Will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. Will be expected to assist in the pre-treatment evaluation of all patients as per professional nursing standards, hospital and program policies and procedures and in accordance with all legal and ethical standards. Expected to provide emergency interventions as required. Expected to have familiarity with psychiatric disorders that would require ECT or TMS. Lastly, the nurse will have the ability to collaborate with patients, Nurses, physicians and other health care professionals in the provision of care is essential.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:
Ability to demonstrate critical thinking and clinical judgment. Demonstrate knowledge and ability to assist with mental health treatment as part of ECT and TMS: pre and post ECT/TMS care, assist with ECT/TMS treatment as required. Demonstrate knowledge of relevant Legislation, such as Mental Health Act and Informed Consent. Demonstrate knowledge of the formal certification process and implications required. Demonstrate ability to work as part of a team. Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills required. Knowledge and ability to assess mental status required. Knowledge about common mental health issues/illnesses required. Ability to identify signs and symptoms of mental health issues required. Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Airway Management. Minimum of two years’ experience working in Mental Health.
